I am working with Joann Stock and Robert Clayton to analyze marine seismic refraction data collected offshore from Antarctica in January 2007, in order to understand how mid-ocean-ridge speading, in oceanic crust on the margin of the Ross Sea, propogated into the continental material of the West Antarctic Rift System. In particular, we are investigating how the deep crust of the Adare Trough (in oceanic crust) and the neighboring Northen Basin (continental crust) are structurally related. We are collaboratong with Steve Cande, Roi Granot, and Fred Davey on this project.
The other half of my research efforts go towards understanfing the internal structure of Planum Boreum, the domed icy deposits at the north pole of Mars, in particular the shape, volume, and precise boundaries of the older Basal Unit. We use MARSIS radar data from the Mars Express orbiter to map internal interfaces in Planum Borem because that instrument uniquely detects the boundary between the Basal Unit and the underlying northern plains material. I am working with Prof. Oded Ahronson and Jeff Plaut, JPL Scientist, on this project.
