Research
I am interested in modeling crustal deformation and mantle dynamics in subduction zones. I am currently working with Prof. Mark Simons and Mike Gurnis, working with Finite Element Models to understand the evolution of subduction zones from the "bottom-up": How events occurring on a subducting plate interface with along-strike rheological and geometrical heterogeneities can, over the time-scale of several earthquake cycles, lead to the development of long-term topographic features in the forearc. I am also interested in core-mantle interactions. I am also interested in the dynamics of core-mantle interactions. I have published a paper with Prof. David Stevenson this year (GRL, January 2006), where we propose a suction mechanism for entraining liquid iron from the outer core into the lowermost mantle at the Core-Mantle Boundary (CMB).
